Fresh Snowfall in the Siskiyou Mountains
This view is looking south from the Rogue Valley (near Talent) towards the Siskiyou Mountains.
Fall on Marigold Lane
It was a nice brisk Fall morning walking my dog Taiko when this photo was taken.
Spring Rainbow
Spring can bring some chaotic weather, but conditions were just right for dark black clouds and a super bright rainbow over one of our trees.
Mountain in the Sky
I noticed the alignment of the sun and clouds while working in the field. Fortunately I had my iPhone with me and snapped this image, then ran inside to get my DSLR. When I came back outside just a few minutes later, the alignment was gone.
Spring in the Rogue Valley
Spring is the most beautiful time of year here I feel. The grass is an amazing bright green, snow on the mountains, and everything is fresh.
Spring Thunerstorm
This thunderstorm was now moving away towards the Cascade Mountains. A few minutes before it was raining and hailing.
Big Creek at Sunset Bay
Taken near the campground at Sunset Bay (near Coos Bay), this is the start of a very beautiful trail that follows the shoreline south along the cliffs towards Shore Acres. It's a beautiful hike, with many, many viewpoints along the way.
Cape Arago Lighthouse and Shoreline
One of the many viewpoints along the hike from Sunset Bay to Shore Acres. Cape Arago Lighthouse is in the background.
Heavy Clouds
An unusual Spring storm that the clouds were being forced lower than normal to almost ground level. Though this storm stayed on the south side of the valley (away from us), I'm sure there was quite a bit of hail/snow produced by it.
Pear Orchards in Spring
In early April, we get the peak bloom in the nearby Pear Orchards, which can create some amazing scenes of the tree blossoms. The peak time generally lasts only a week.
Goat Island, Harris Beach
The viewpoint at Harris Beach offers a stunning vista of the southern Oregon coastline. Surprisingly this photo was taken on December 31st... in the midst of Winter... it was a beautiful day here.
Harris Beach Rock Garden #1
Between the two beaches at Harris Beach is the "Marine Garden", which makes for some dramatic scenery. Some of this area can only be accessed at low tides.
Spring Sunlight
A break in the clouds created this sharp contrast between the hay fields (and neighboring homes) with the dark Siskiyou Mountains in the background.
View from Drake Point
View looking south from Drake Point in Cape Arago State Park. There are no roads through this section of coastline shown here... it's a pretty wild area.
Cape Arago State Park
Just south of Sunset Bay / Shore Acres is Cape Arago State Park. which can offer incredible views on a clear day.
Marine Garden
Harris Beach Marine Garden between the two main beaches at the park.
Canadian Geese
We get hundreds of Canadian Geese in the fields nearby during the winter months. They are amazing to watch.
Storm Walk at Harris Beach
One of my favorite photos from the year... the two strolling on the beach gives everything the right perspective.
Storm Approaching
A rather ominous storm approaching with a brief light through the clouds shining on our neighbors field and barn.
Winter Storm Showers at Harris Beach
The storm was clearing and only a few showers remaining when this was taken.
Arch Rock Light
Most of the time, the sun is not aligned with the arch to make it all the way through. In this case, the timing was perfect. We were making fun that perhaps there was pirate's buried treasure under the rock.
Zinfandel Grapes
I have a small vineyard in which Zinfandel grapes are grown as a hobby. The grapes are super sweet and delicious... and make great wine.
Harris Beach at Sunrise
Harris Beach is one of the finest places for photography, or just enjoying the coast. Camping here (great campground!), gives an easy access to early morning hours when things are quiet.
Oak Tree in Winter
The low clouds gave this a surreal feeling... shadows are almost non-existent, and it made things seem other worldly.
Cattle in Rogue Valley
Another of my favorite photos from 2018... the smoke clearing, and the cattle grazing made for a spectacular scene.
Orchard and Foothills at Sunset
Spring can always give some dramatic scenes... this was after a storm was clearing.
Hay Harvest
A neighbor's field after harvesting. Typically there are 2-3 harvests in a given year. The first one is the most productive... second harvest is about 1/2 that.
Snow Approaching
This photo is looking southwest from the Rogue Valley as a snowstorm approaches. Typically we get a few "dustings" a year, but on rare occasions, we'll get up to a foot of snow.
Spring Spotlight
A small ranch is lit up by a single break in the clouds in early Spring.
Mt. Shasta
Mt. Shasta is a volcano in northern California. If you have ever driven past it, you'll know it's a memorable experience seeing how high it is relative to everything else around it.
Eel Lake
A very quiet morning at Eel Lake near the Oregon coast.
Rock Creek
Rock Creek campground is along the coast north of Florence. It's a primitive campground, and extremely beautiful. We fell in love with it.
Summer Storm Warning
A very unusual storm in mid-July... in the many years here, I can't recall seeing a cloud formation like this.
Duxbury Reef at Sunset
Duxbury Reef (Bolinas, California), is an amazing place to explore. It is also very rough waters much of the time. This photo is looking southwest towards the sunset.
Winter Sunrise
This is looking southeast (towards Ashland)... Winter sunrises can be very colorful ("Red sky at morning, sailors take warning").
Tule Fog #1
Tule Fog is a common event in mid-Winter here. The air has to be relatively still for it to form though.
Tule Fog #2
Also in mid-Winter, but looking across ranch lands towards the west.
Troon Vineyard at Sunset
Troon is one of several excellent wineries in the Applegate region, and we happened to be here during a spectacular sunset.
Hummingbirds at Feeder
We have several hummingbird feeders, and always enjoy their presence. To take this photo, I had to mount a camera on a tripod on top of a set of chairs... it was a precarious setup, but it paid off.
Beach at Cape Blanco
There are a few places that I really need to explore further... this is one... it's close, yet very few explore it. It's certainly a beautiful beach!
Mary D. Hume
At the mouth of the Rogue River (Gold Beach) you can find this shipwreck near the bridge. The Mary D. Hume has quite a history behind it. The shipwreck is deteriorating rapidly, so best to see it soon.
Redwoods - Simpson Reed Trail
Just north of Crescent City is the Simpson Reed Trail through the Redwoods. It's a short trail, easily walked, but well worth spending time here. The forest here is incredible and majestic.
